Small Talk News

Two articles today that just inspired me to blog….

I wanted to address Nadia Suleman (aka Octomum) before and an article in The Daily Telegraph (Aust.) about someone trashing her car just inspired me to have a say….

I’ve watched a couple of interviews with her. She seems quite normal and articulate. At least a far cry from what the media have painted her to be. And the shame name the media has given her (Octomum)- how belittling and unnecessary (!) And don’t you just love that they describe her as “Ms Suleman, an unemployed single mother of 14″ - hello!!!! Take out the unemployed for gods sake. The woman has a job - looking after 14 children. What do they want her to do? Go wait tables in her spare time? I could go on and on about this for ages and ages… but just one final point that shat me earlier this week when she made headlines for dismissing a mother helper/nanny or whatever, because she didn’t think she was right or doing her job properly. Just because she is receiving help, does not mean she has to accept second rate help with her precious babies. Mothers usually have a gut feeling for who is right to look after their babies and she seems like an incredibly devoted mother to me. So she had 6 babies she did not mean to have - it’s done, over, the babies are here. Now let’s move on and give her the support she needs. In my mind she is supermum - 14 (!!!!!) 2 is where my capabilities stop.

And this little diddy research item (in short): “to women, being funny apparently makes men seem more intelligent, trustworthy, a better bet for a relationship.”  ”Men who want a woman with a sense of humour really mean someone who will laugh at their jokes.”
