Small Business Start Ups - A Sobering Reality
In case you need a dose of reality about how hard starting a business is...... The NY Times followed the progress of three new business start ups. A year on, here are some sobering facts:
1. None of them met their goals.
2. The most successful business - a restaurant - expects to be turning a profit after 1 year 2 months.
3. The owner of said restaurant has had one day off in a year.
4. The owner of the second business - a t-shirt company - has had to take on a full time job after a year without any financial success.
5. The owner of the third business - an internet site - is at the edge of needing investor capital to move forward.
Out of all the three businesses, my money is on the restaurant. Why? It all comes down to this quote from the owner;
"Being boss isn't always fun. But I could never work for somebody else"
Gold.
